St Barnabas is one of three ‘Church of England’ churches that make up the Parish of Canford Magna, the others being Canford Magna Parish Church and the Lantern Church in Merley.
In 1982 Bearwood Church Centre was planted out from the Lantern and the Parish church into the new residential development here in Bearwood, and in 2005 the centre was formally re-named St Barnabas Church. The three churches remain one parish supporting and encouraging one another in their respective ministries and are governed by one Parochial Church Council, though each church has a local sub-committee overseeing the local ministry.
All three churches are of an ‘evangelical charismatic’ tradition and associated with the New Wine network of churches.
Our Vision
To be a church family rooted in the bible and serving our community. Being a place where people encounter the transforming power of God; in worship, in teaching, and in our values and lifestyles.
Our Mission
To make disciples of Jesus, who make a difference for Jesus in a world that needs Jesus.
Our Purpose
A Maturing Church
We haven’t got everything together! We believe that the preaching and teaching ministry is vital in the process of ‘growing up.’ It is a priority in the life of the church. We grow as we learn, take risks, fail and falter. We grow as we take our place in the body of Christ and encourage, help, cajole, and work together in all things.
A Serving Church
We believe that every Christian should be involved in Christian service in the ‘church’ and in the ‘world’. We all have gifts to offer. We believe that there is joy and blessing in serving, and our hope and desire is to help every member to discover their gifts and talents for ministry.
A Witnessing Church
We believe that we are all called to be witnesses to the grace, love and mercy of God in the places we life, work and socialize. These are our missional frontlines. Our desire is to support every member to feel able to share their Christian faith in word and deed. Our vision is to see the Kingdom of God grow in the places and spaces we inhabit.
A Healing Church
We believe that God heals today as he has always done. He is able to bring healing and wholeness to our bodies, minds and spirits, and so as we love, care and pray for one another, we believe Jesus can and will transform our circumstances.
